Review: The CSS Detective Guide
For example, a website URL like this that guides your target audience to your product page is an example of a poorly planned site structure: www.yourwebsite.com/products-features/features-by-industry/airlines-case-studies/airlines-products.
Links help search bots understand where a page fits in the grand scheme of a query and gives context for how to rank that page. Links guide search bots (and users) to related content and transfer page importance. Overall, linking improves crawling, indexing, and your ability to rank.
The guide is written on the assumption that you read through the parts in order, but if you think you already know everything in some sections, you can skip ahead if you like. (Be warned, though, that many people who think they know HTML don't know valid HTML, and if you're not absolutely certain this does not apply to you, you're better off starting at the beginning.)
The focus of the fourth season shifted between a local school, the mayoral election, police department politics and action on the street corners. The returning starring cast consisted of Dominic West as Officer Jimmy McNulty, the formerly insubordinate detective who attempts to shed his ability and his problems in favor of a better life.[4][5] West was at the time homesick and wanting to spend time with his young daughter in England; he also felt the character's plot arc had reached a reasonable end point in season 3, so West arranged with the writers for McNulty's role to be greatly reduced in Season 4.[6]
The Major Crimes Unit saw a shift in personnel this season. Kima Greggs, portrayed by Sonja Sohn,[11][12] and Lester Freamon, portrayed by Clarke Peters,[13][14] transferred to the Homicide Unit after the new lieutenant of the Major Crimes Unit ends the wire and halts Freamon's investigation of the Barksdale money. Corey Parker-Robinson portrayed Detective Leander Sydnor, one of two detectives who remain in the Major Crimes Unit after the arrival of the new lieutenant.[15] Domenick Lombardozzi returned as Thomas "Herc" Hauk, a former member of the Major Crimes Unit whose work on the mayor's security detail earns him a promotion to sergeant and a transfer back to his old unit after Freamon and Greggs' departure.[16][17]
Wendell Pierce portrayed veteran homicide detective Bunk Moreland.[18][19] Deirdre Lovejoy starred as assistant state's attorney Rhonda Pearlman, the legal liaison between the unit and the courthouse.[20][21] Andre Royo returned as Bubbles, who continued to indulge his drug addiction and act as an occasional informant.[22][23] Jim True-Frost portrayed Roland "Prez" Pryzbylewski,[24] a former member of the Major Crimes Unit who has become a teacher in an inner city school after inadvertently killing a fellow officer in season three.
Many guest stars also reprised their characters from the police department. Returning guest stars in the homicide unit included Delaney Williams as Sergeant Jay Landsman,[63][64] Ed Norris as Detective Ed Norris,[65][66] and Brian Anthony Wilson as Detective Vernon Holley.[67] Al Brown and Jay Landsman reprised their roles as Major Stan Valchek and Lieutenant Dennis Mello.[68][69][70][71] Michael Salconi recurred as veteran Western patrolman Michael Santangelo.[67] Gregory L. Williams played Michael Crutchfield, a cantankerous homicide detective.[72][73] Joilet F. Harris returned as Caroline Massey, an officer in the Major Crimes Unit.[74][75] Joining the Major Crimes Unit this season is Kenneth Dozerman (Rick Otto).[76][77] In the western district, Carver's squad includes Anthony Colicchio (Benjamin Busch), Lloyd "Truck" Garrick (Ryan Sands), and Lambert (Nakia Dillard).[67]
There are a lot of things to get frustrated about in This Is the Police. Send some officers out to a simple call and have one of them die? Check. City Hall riding your back and cutting funding? Check. Investigations seeming impossible? Double check. It's not totally mandatory that you finish investigations. Chances are, there are going to be a few you never finish. Your detectives may take an eternity to find all the frames, you may never figure out the order of an investigation's frames, your officers may fail to catch the suspect once it's all said and done. And let's not get into full gang investigations.
The first big issue you run into past the three-frame investigations is your detectives not being able to get all of the frames you need to come up with the solution. This really gets some players, and admittedly sometimes it takes entirely too long to get all the frames even with a few detectives on the case.
One thing to note is you cannot see new investigation opportunities if all your detectives are working cases. If you'd like to get more investigations sometimes it's best to have one detective free just to have new ones appear on the map.
If you can't solve an investigation and you think (or know) you need more frames, you need to place more detectives on the case. You can put detectives from both A and B shifts on a case regardless of the shift the case was started on. The more detectives on a case, the better.
Don't forget that your detectives' ability to solve investigations is directly tied to their professionalism, though even detectives with professionalism in the high hundreds can find new frames at a snail's pace. Always remember you can go to your Deputy and send your officers out to the police academy to increase their professionalism, even your detectives.
I've also worked up a guide on the Dentist investigation, starting from hunting down the evidence and ending at the frames and sequence needed to figure out his MO. It's not perfect but it does the job.
